Austin Deasy

Ceist:

116 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Health when he intends to provide moneys for the erection of the 108 bed replacement geriatric hospital at Dungarvan, County Waterford; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 115 and 116 together. The South-Eastern Health Board are of the view that in the short term a unit for the elderly in Dungarvan containing 27 beds should be built at a cost of just under £1 million. I agree with this approach.

This revised proposal will be considered in the context of the additional funds made available this year to implement the commitments to develop services for the elderly contained in the Programme for Economic and Social Progress and the other priority developments of the South-Eastern Health Board.
