Vol. 405 No. 3

Written Answers. - County Cavan Historic Ruins.

Andrew Boylan

Ceist:

79 Mr. Boylan asked the Minister for Finance if he will make moneys available for the placing into State care of the ruins of the Holy Trinity Friary, Trinity Island, Lough Uachtair, County Cavan; and if he will consider giving approval to the restoration of these historic ruins which date back to 1237.

The Trinity Abbey site is in private ownership. Before attention could be given to an appropriate programme of maintenance and conservation works, it would be necessary to have the site vested in the Commissioners of Public Works. I am at present having the question of taking the site into State care considered.
