Vol. 405 No. 5

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Michael Moynihan

Ceist:

21 Mr. Moynihan asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if, in view of the depressed level of small farmer incomes in the more severely handicapped areas, he has any proposals to pay cattle headage grants on an increased number of dairy cows above ten per head, in view of the position in some other EC areas where 20 dairy cows per herd are recognised for payment.

As the Deputy will be aware, extra funds have been allocated in this year's budget for the purpose of modulating and increasing headage payment rates in the disadvantaged areas in 1991. The detailed proposals for these increases have not yet been finalised. I am considering how best to apply these extra funds and I will make an announcement on the matter shortly.
