Vol. 405 No. 8

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given to me under Standing Order 20 (3) (a) and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Nora Owen — the delays and embarrassment caused for thousands of applicants for Irish citizenship under the Irish Nationality and Citizenship Act, 1986 due to need for a piece of amending legislation since February 1987; (2) Deputy Dick Spring — the threatened withdrawal by the Department of Education of funding for the Tralee sports complex; (3) Deputy Eric Byrne — the problems created by underage car drivers and the difficulties faced by the Gardaí in dealing with this matter; (4) Deputy Eamon Gilmore — the proposed location of an interpretative centre in the Wicklow mountains by the Office of Public Works; (5) Deputy Jim Mitchell — matters arising out of the statement by Mr. Justice Barron in the Marsh Case in the Central Criminal Court yesterday; (6) Deputy Bernard Allen — the need for adequate Department of Education funding in order to avoid an 8 per cent increase in fees at University College, Cork; and (7) Deputy Pat McCartan — the implications for public health policy, and especially the battle against AIDS, of the decision of the Circuit Court to uphold a conviction and increase the fine on the Irish Family Planning Association for the sale of a condom at the Virgin Megastore in Dublin.

I have selected for discussion the matters raised by the following Deputies: Jim Mitchell, Eric Byrne and Dick Spring.
