Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given to me under Standing Order 20 (3) (a) (a) and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Patrick J. Sheehan — the serious situation and the air of uncertainty, that appertains in relation to Ireland's application to the EC for the extension of the disadvantaged areas; and if the Minister for Agriculture and Food will inform the House the exact position in this regard; (2) Deputy Ivan Yates — the matters relating to the agreement signed by the Government and the Irish Continental Group to sell the B & I Line plc; (3) Deputy Padraic McCormack — the question of tenders for Snipe Avenue school for the mentally handicapped; (4) Deputy Sean Ryan — the need for a new health centre in Swords, given the conditions that exist in the present facility and in the light of the Department's discussions with the Eastern Health Board on this matter; (5) Deputy Jim Higgins — the need for the Minister for Education to give the go ahead to the badly needed Dental Hospital; (6) Deputy Bernard Allen — subject matter of Parliamentary Question No. 15 on 5 March 1991 and the disclosures that unemployment has increased by 5 per cent in Cork city between January 1990 and January 1991; (7) Deputy John O'Donoghue — the waiting list for ear, nose and throat services at Tralee General Hospital relative to other hospitals in the region; (8) Deputy P. J. Morley — the threatened redundancies in Farah Ltd, at Ballyhaunis and Kiltimagh, County Mayo; (9) Deputy Dick Spring — the reasons only 35 of the additional 1,000 hospital beds promised for this year by the Minister for Health are to be made available in the Southern Health Board area; (10) Deputy Nora Owen — when people who applied for registration before 31 December 1986 and before the coming into force of the Irish Citizenship and Nationality Act, 1987, will be registered as Irish citizens; and (11) Deputy Michael Finucane — the delay in approving social employment schemes nationally.

The Ceann Comhairle has selected for discussion the matters raised by the following Deputies: (1) Deputy P.J. Morley; (2) Deputy Seán Ryan; and (3) Deputy Ivan Yates.
