45 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for the Marine when the position of co-ordinator of the Marine Rescue Service will be filled; if it will be open to members of the Defence Forces and to other experienced personnel; and if it will be publicly advertised.
The Civil Service Commissioners will shortly hold an open competition for the post of director of the new division in my Department with responsibility for marine emergencies i.e. search and rescue, shipwreck, sea and coastal pollution and maritime intervention. The timing of the filling of the post is a matter for the Civil Service Commissioners.
The competition will be open to all persons, including members of the Defence Forces, with the relevant experience. The competition will be publicly advertised on 7 March 1991.
