Vol. 406 No. 1

Written Answers. - Local Authority Housing.

Eamon Gilmore

Ceist:

82 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for the Environment if he will outline (a) the number of local authority houses which were started in 1990, (b) the number of local authority house which were completed in 1990, (c) the total number of casual vacancies which arose in local authority housing in 1990 and (d) the housing schemes for which each local authority is currently seeking funding or approval from his Department.

Information received by my Department from the housing authorities indicates that, in 1990, 1,274 dwellings were commenced and 1,003 dwellings were completed-acquired. A full set of returns have not been received to date from the 89 housing authorities to enable the number of casual vacancies which arose during 1990 to be finally calculated; however, indications are that approximately 3,800 such vacancies arose.

I take it that the last section of the question refers to new schemes which local authorities plan to start in 1991. These will depend on the allocations for the 1991 housing construction programmes which will be notified shortly.
