Vol. 406 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Gerry O'Sullivan

Ceist:

90 Mr. G. O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Education if, having regard to the safety factor involved, she will direct that the school bus picks up the children of Little Island, County Cork, who are attending Midleton school, at Little Island Cross; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The appropriate post-primary centre for transport purposes for the pupils in question is Cobh. However, these pupils have chosen to attend Midleton-Carrigtwohill post-primary centre. Accordingly, the most that may be offered under the terms of the post-primary school transport scheme is consessionary transport from the Midletoncarrigtwohill catchment boundary. This concession would apply only to basically eligible pupils and is subject to spare accommodation being available on existing services and subject to no extra cost.
