198 Mr. Harte asked the Minister for Justice if his attention has been drawn to a serious incident between Culmore British Army checkpoint and Muff, County Donegal on 4 March 1991; and if in view of the general concern and the conflicting reports as to what happened, he will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware of reports of the incident to which the question refers. The Garda Commissioner has appointed a senior Garda officer to conduct an investigation into all aspects of the occurrence. That investigation has yet to be completed and, in the circumstances, I do not consider that any further comment would be appropriate.
