Vol. 406 No. 4

Written Answers. - Importation of Reconditioned Ambulances.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

131 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health if he proposes to import reconditioned secondhand ambulances from the United Kingdom or if he has any knowledge of ambulances being imported by health boards.

Responsibility for the provision of ambulances lies with the health boards in the first instance.

I understand that a number of health boards are in the process of purchasing ten ambulance vehicles from a health authority in the United Kingdom to supplement their ambulance fleet. The health boards concerned have obtained the services of a qualified independent vehicle assessor to carry out a detailed thorough examination of the vehicles to ensure safety and road worthiness.
