Vol. 406 No. 5

Written Answers. - Prize Bonds.

John F. O'Connell

Ceist:

52 Dr. O'Connell asked the Minister for Finance the arrangements which exist for the publication of the results of weekly and monthly prize bond draws; and if he has satisfied himself that these arrangements are adequate to give sufficient publicity to subscribers.

The following arrangements apply for the publication of the results of all prize bond draws:

—all prize winners are notified by post by the prize bonds company,

—all winning numbers are published in Iris Oifigiúil,

—the results of all draws are circulated to the major newspapers,
—the results are circulated immediately after each draw to the larger post offices,
—the monthly £100,000 prize winning number is notified to RTE Radio who invariably broadcast it as part of the 1 p.m. News.
Furthermore, all prize bond draws are open to the public.
I am satisfied that these arrangements are adequate. They are however at present being reviewed by the National Treasury Management Agency which now exercises the borrowing and debt management powers of the Minister for Finance.
