Vol. 406 No. 7

Written Answers. - Recruitment of Physiotherapists.

Michael Moynihan

Ceist:

220 Mr. Moynihan asked the Minister for Health if, he will outline (1) if an interview was held in the James Connolly Memorial Hospital, Dublin, in March 1990 to fill posts as physiotherapists, (2) the number of applicants interviewed, (3) whether appointments were made following this interview and (4) whether each applicant was notified of the result.

At the outset, I wish to point out to the Deputy that arrangements for the recruitment of physiotherapists are a matter for the individual health board concerned.

My Department have, however, made inquiries with the Eastern Health Board in this instance and have been advised as follows in relation to the specific information requested by the Deputy: (1) interviews to recruit basic grade physiotherapists were held by the Eastern Health Board in April 1990 at St. Mary's Hospital, Phoenix Park, in respect of positions at that hospital, Naas General Hospital and James Connolly Memorial Hospital; (2) a total of five applicants were interviewed in this connection; and (3) there were two appointments made following these interviews.

In regard to the Deputy's final point, I understand, from the Eastern Health Board that two applicants were not notified of the outcome of their interviews and I intend to have this matter pursued with the board.
