Ceist:

191 Mr. E. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Social Welfare when a free telephone rental allowance will be awarded to a person (details supplied) in County Cork.

The person concerned is residing with his wife and disabled son. One of the conditions for receipt of free telephone rental allowance is that the applicant must reside either entirely alone or only with persons who are so permanently incapacitated as to be unable to summon help in the event of an emergency.

On the basis of the medical evidence supplied, his wife's medical condition does not meet this requirement. For this reason the application for telephone rental allowance was rejected.
