285 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health if he will make a statement on the recent publication by the Western Health Board of a code of conduct for consultants employed by them; and whether the principles set out in this code of conduct are in line with Departmental policy.
The code of conduct which was initially introduced by the Western Health Board in 1980 is applicable to all staff and is a matter for the chief executive officer of the board in the light of his statutory functions.
At present in the course of the negotiations regarding the revision of consultant's common contract the relationship between consultants and their employing authorities is being discussed.
