329 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Education if she will outline the categories of students in regional technical colleges who are eligible for ESF grants; whether students in (a) two year certificate and (b) three year diploma courses are eligible for such grants; and the approximate value of such grants to individual students.
Students enrolled in VEC third level colleges on courses, which lead to one to two year certificates, national certificates or three year diplomas awarded by the NCEA are eligible for ESF training grants.
Students currently receive free tuition and an allowance of £547 per anum in respect of those living at home and £1,323 per annum in respect of those, living 15 miles or more from the college, who are obliged to stay overnight away from home in the locality of the college.
