Vol. 407 No. 2

Written Answers. - Mullingar-Sligo Railway Line.

Paul McGrath

Ceist:

91 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Tourism, Transport and Communications if, in the light of the recent abandoning of maintenance work by Irish Rail on the Mullingar-Sligo railway line, he has satisfied himself that the track is safe for passenger trains and goods trains; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have been advised by the chairman of CIE that maintenance work on the Mullingar-Sligo line has not been abandoned. The chairman has confirmed to me that Irish Rail's track maintenance standards are such that the Mullingar-Sligo railway line is safe at all times for the speeds permitted for both passenger and freight trains.
