Vol. 407 No. 5

Written Answers. - FÁS Schemes Funding.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

24 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Labour if he will now give an assurance that sufficient funds are available for FÁS schemes within the confines of the Programme for Social and Economic Progress; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

A total of £67.193 million has been made available from the Exchequer in 1991 for the main employment schemes administered by FÁS. A sum of £41.324 million has been made available from the Exchequer for training.

I am satisfied that these resources, augmented by EC assistance of about £85 million, are sufficient for the operation of FÁS training programmes and employment schemes at an adequate level during 1991.

The Exchequer allocation for each employment scheme is as follows:

£m

Social Employment Scheme

57.785

Teamwork

4.860

Employment Incentive Scheme

2.448

Enterprise Scheme

2.100
