Vol. 407 No. 5

Written Answers. - Dublin Crime.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

49 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice if the Garda Commissioner has received a written submission from the Aughrim Street Parish Residents Association, Dublin 7, regarding problems related to crime in their area; and if he will outline the Commissioner's response to that submission.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that they received the communication referred to by the Deputy and arranged for a senior Garda officer to meet with the Aughrim Street Parish Residents Association to discuss problems of crime and vandalism in the area.

Following this meeting the Garda authorities instructed foot and mobile patrols as well as specialist units to pay particular attention to this area. In addition, extra patrols will be carried out in the area as a result of the recent assignment of additional gardaí to the Bridewell district. They have also instructed the community Garda for the area to liaise closely with the association.

I am also informed that the gardaí are in frequent contact with representatives of the residents association, they are continuing to monitor the situation closely and will take whatever further action may be appropriate to deal with problems in the area.
