Vol. 407 No. 7

Written Answers. - Sligo School Transport.

Edward Nealon

Ceist:

93 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the fact that when some secondary schools in Sligo town take a mid-term break school transport for all other secondary schools in the town is discontinued for those days leaving the students of these schools without any school transport over the period; her views on whether this practice is fair all round; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Every effort is made to ensure that schools in an area co-ordinate their opening and closure dates at holiday times so as to ensure an adequate transport service.

In the case of Sligo town, school transport schedules for the 1990-91 school year were drawn up following local consultations with school managers/ principals and transport liaison officers. These schedules were subsequently circulated to all schools well in advance of the 1990-91 school year and are adhered to by the majority of schools in the area.
