146 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for Social Welfare the benefits insured in respect of each social insurance class.

149 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for Social Welfare (a) the employments and (b) the approximate number of employees in such employment covered by the following social insurance classes, (1) B, (2) C, (3) D, (4) G, (5) H and (6) L.

150 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for Social Welfare (a) the number of employees covered by social insurance and (b) the number of employees covered by each class of social insurance in each of the years 1980 to 1990 inclusive.

It is proposed to take Questions No. 146, 149 and 150 together.

The PRSI Class G (which applied to Out-worker Male Weavers who are not employed under a contract of service) was abolished in 1991.
The PRSI Class L which formerly applied to Registered Doctors in the Civil Service was abolished in 1988.
The other statistical information requested by the Deputy, in so far as it is available, is given in the accompanying tables. Table 1 gives data from 1980 onwards. However details for each individual class are only available from 1985-87 onwards, and these are given in Table 2.

147 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for Social Welfare the total amount contributed by (a) employers and (b) employees to the social insurance fund for each of the years from 1980 to 1990 and the estimated figure for 1991 broken down by each social insurance class.

The total amounts contributed by (a) employers and (b) employees for the years 1980 to 1990 and the estimated figures for 1991 are below. The Occupational Injuries Fund and the Redundancy and Employers Insolvency Fund were amalgamated with the Social Insurance Fund on 1 May 1990, but employer contributions to these funds for all years have been included for ease of comparison.

Contributions were also received from the self-employed from 1988 onwards. These are not included in the figures provided.

148 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for Social Welfare the amount expended from the social insurance fund on each category of social insurance payment in the years from 1980 to 1990 and the estimated figure for 1991.

The following tables give social insurance expenditure broken down by category of payment in the years 1980 to 1990 and the estimated figures for 1991. The Occupational Injuries Fund and the Redundancy and Employers Insolvency Fund were amalgamated with the Social Insurance Fund on 1 May 1990, but expenditure under these funds for all years has been included in the tables, for ease of comparison.

A breakdown of expenditure by social insurance class is not available.
