Vol. 407 No. 9

Written Answers. - Train Dining Cars Standards.

Jim Higgins

Ceist:

189 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Health the number of inspections carried out by the inspectorate of health boards on dining facilities on trains; and if he has satisfied himself with the standards operated.

Dining facilities at railway stations and on board trains are inspected by the health boards on a regular basis under the Food Hygiene Regulations 1950 to 1989. Statistics on the inspections of dining cars on trains are not collected as a separate category and fall within the general figures for inspections. There is a high degree of food hygiene on Irish trains and the co-operation between Iarnród Éireann and the health boards ensures that any problems which may arise are quickly dealt with.
