34 Mr. McCartan asked the Minister for the Environment the total amount still outstanding in unpaid agricultural rates; if he has had any discussions with local authorities regarding possible measures to recover this money; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
I refer to the reply to Question No. 85 of 17 February 1988 which contains the most recent information available on the matter in my Department. The amount outstanding at 31 December 1987 was £19.9 million. It is a matter for each local authority to decide what action, if any, can be taken to collect outstanding amounts.
