Vol. 408 No. 6

Written Answers. - Ports Services.

Ivan Yates

Ceist:

4 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for the Marine if he will outline the latest situation in relation to the operation of lo-lo facilities in Dublin and Holyhead ports so that the shipping services that existed there can be reintroduced for freight clients; and whether Dublin Port and Docks Board have any proposals in this regard.

I assume that the Deputy is referring to the recent closure of the Sealink Container Terminal at Dublin Port and the ending of lo-lo operations there.

I am pleased to be able to inform this House that I have approved arrangements which have allowed Dublin Port agree terms for the acquisition of the terminal, which they will be renovating and marketing as an improved lo-lo facility. I am confident that trade lost to the port before and subsequent to the recent closure can be regained.
