Ceist:45 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for the Marine the number of fishing boat licence applications received in his Department since 1st August, 1989; and the number of licences granted since then.
Written Answers. - Fishing Boat Licences.
The number of licence applications other than in respect of changes of ownership or renewals received in my Department since 1 August 1989 is approximately 320, the vast majority of which do not meet the replacement criteria for the granting of new licences.
In the period in question a total of 26 new licences have been issued. Of this total seven licences were issued on the basis of the replacement criteria and 19 were based on written commitments which had issued to the applicants concerned, prior to the present policy coming into force.
