Vol. 408 No. 6

Written Answers. - Health Boards' Advisory Committees.

Gerry O'Sullivan

Ceist:

79 Mr. G. O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the local committee of the Southern Health Board for south Cork will meet on a regular basis; if he will outline this committee's legal basis; if he has any plans to review the position of these advisory committees; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware that a number of local health committees are still functioning. These committees have their legal basis in section 7 of the Health Act, 1970. The Government have given a commitment in the Programme for Economic and Social Progress to announce, during 1991, their proposals for improvement in the administration and management of the health services. These proposals will include decisions on the role of local representation in the structure of the health services taking into account the Government's proposals for local government reform.
