Ceist:37 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Finance whether it is intended to extend the seven year's service contract arrangement, which applies to departmental secretaries, to other public servants.

Within my immediate area of responsibility — the Civil Service — I have no plans at present to extend to other grades the special terms of appointment currently applicable to secretaries of Government Departments.
Elsewhere in the public sector, the desirability of changing the terms of appointment of staff at chief executive level would, in the first instance, fall to be considered by the Minister responsible for the service concerned or, in the case of State bodies, by the relevant boards.
