Ceist:

58 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Finance (1) the average interbank interest rate for each year since 1980 and (2) the exchange rate for the Irish pound against the Deutschemark, the pound Sterling, the US dollar, the yen, the Swiss franc and the ECU for each year since 1980.

The average three month interbank interest rates for the years 1980 to 1990, based on end month data, are as follows: 1980, 16.3 per cent; 1981, 16.7 per cent; 1982, 17.5 per cent; 1983, 14.0 per cent; 1984, 13.2 per cent; 1985, 11.9 per cent; 1986, 12.5 per cent; 1987, 10.8 per cent; 1988, 8.1 per cent; 1989, 10.0 per cent; 1990, 11.3 per cent. The exchange rates, period averages, for the Irish pound vis-à-vis other currencies for the years 1980 to 1990 are as follows:
