The net cost of reducing the qualifying age for old age pension purposes on the lines suggested by the Deputy is estimated as follows:

Ceist:70 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Social Welfare when a decision will issue in the unemployment benefit appeal of a person (details supplied) in County Mayo.
Entitlement to unemployment benefit is subject to the statutory condition that a person must be available for and genuinely seeking work.
The person concerned claimed unemployment benefit on 15 March 1991. Her claim was disallowed on the grounds that she was not available for or genuinely seeking work.
She appealed against the disallowance to the independent social welfare appeals office and arrangements are being made to have an oral hearing of her appeal. She will be advised of the time, date and venue of the hearing where it will be open to her to attend and give evidence on her own behalf.
When a decision is given on her appeal, she will be notified of the outcome without delay.
