Vol. 409 No. 1

Written Answers. - Kildare Church Restoration.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

32 Mr. Durkan asked the Taoiseach whether the National Heritage Council will favourably consider an application for funding for the purpose of restoring the historic Church of Ireland in Maynooth, County Kildare; if the provision of other assistance such as expertise is likely; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Applications for grant assistance from the National Heritage Council are considered on their merits by the council. The council have complete independence in deciding on the priorities for grant assistance and the amount, if any, in each case. I understand that the council have not received any application in respect of a Church of Ireland at Maynooth, County Kildare. While the council can offer some helpful advice and guidance on the various applications submitted it is not their role to give detailed guidance in the case of any project. The council expect that professional expertise will have been sought before any application is made.

Application forms for grant assistance from the council are available from the Secretary, National Heritage Council, Department of the Taoiseach, Government Buildings, Dublin 2.
