96 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for the Environment the reason his Department has failed, as in the past, to compile, for statistical purposes, information in relation to the number of domestic fires in 1990 caused by defective electrical wiring as stated in his reply to Parliamentary Question No. 137 on 14 May 1991.

The fire statistics compiled by my Department contain the same basic data for many years past. In relation to domestic buildings, the information continues to be given under two headings — the number of chimney fires and the number of fires attributable to "other causes".
