Vol. 409 No. 1

Written Answers. - Urban Renewal Scheme.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

114 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for the Environment if he is considering at the present time, an urban renewal scheme for Cork city on similar lines to the Temple Bar area of Dublin 2 which he announced recently.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

115 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for the Environment if he proposes to set up other companies similar to Temple Bar Properties Limited in order to pursue similar aims and objectives in other cities in the State.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 114 and 115 together.

I refer to the reply given by the Taoiseach on 7 May 1991 to questions on the proposals for the development of the Temple Bar area, which are, as pointed out, unique to that area. I have no proposals at present to apply similar arrangements to other parts of the country.

As the Deputy is no doubt aware, 126 acres of land are already designated in Cork city under the Urban Renewal Act, 1986.
