Vol. 409 No. 1

Written Answers. - Appointment for Orthodontic Treatment.

Patrick McCartan

Ceist:

135 Mr. McCartan asked the Minister for Health when an orthodontic appointment will be afforded to a person (details supplied) in Dublin 13 who is in need of urgent attention to correct dental irregularities; if he will give details of the overall situation with regard to the sufficiency of these services in the Eastern Health Board area; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I understand from the Eastern Health Board that the person referred to has been assessed in accordance with the Department of Health guidelines for the provision of orthodontic treatment and has been placed on the waiting list in one of the high priority categories. However, she has not yet reached the optimal age for the commencement of orthodontic treatment.

A full-time consultant orthodontist has recently taken up duty with the Eastern Health Board and it is expected that this appointment will lead to a considerable improvement in the availability of orthodontic services.
