Written Answers. - Kildare Schools.

Seán Power

Ceist:

139 Mr. Power asked the Minister for Education when it is proposed to provide an extension to Meánscoil Iognáid Rís, na Bráithre Críostaí, Naas, County Kildare; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

143 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education if, within the context of the Programme for Economic and Social Progress or otherwise, she intends to expedite the provision of extra facilities at Meánscoil Iognáid Rís, Naas, County Kildare, having regard to (a) the school needs as outlined in various submissions to her Department by the school authorities, (b) the serious overcrowding and (c) the necessity to refuse places to prospective students in each of the past three years and in the current year; if she will now approve the necessary procedures to enable work on the project to commence in the near future; and if she will make a statement on the matter outlining the precise extent of facilities now proposed.

I propose to take questions Nos. 139 and 143 together.

My Department are examining the question of how this project should proceed in the context of my Department's other commitments and priorities and in the light of the available capital resources for second level school building generally.
