Vol. 409 No. 5

Written Answers. - Fermoy (Cork) District Court.

Austin Deasy

Ceist:

19 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Justice if he intends to provide replacement staff for the District Court office in Fermoy, County Cork, which services the Lismore and Tallow District Courts, in view of the considerable delays there; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have had inquiries made into the situation in the Fermoy District Court office and I find that I must reject the Deputy's contention that there are considerable delays there. The Fermoy office services District Court sittings at Fermoy, Mitchelstown, Lismore and Tallow and scheduled court sittings have been operating normally at these venues. I am not aware of any undue delay in dealing with office work at Fermoy District Court.

I am fully aware of the staffing position in Fermoy and I understand that procedures for the temporary assignment of replacement staff to the District Court office there are operating satisfactorily and are kept under constant review.
