Vol. 409 No. 6

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given to me under Standing Order 20 (3) (a) and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Deenihan — the closure of Wabdco, Westinghouse, Tralee, County Kerry resulting in the loss of 35 jobs and if the Minister for Industry and Commerce will intervene in the matter. (2) Deputy Enright — whether the Minister for Energy has been informed of the closure of the Derrinlough and Groghan briquette factories, and if he will make a statement on the matter. (3) Deputy Foxe — the serious situation that has arisen as a result of the unfair trading practices exercised by the ESB over their trading opponents. (4) Deputy Deasy — the subject matter of Question No. 15 of 5 June 1991 to the Minister for Social Welfare regarding pension rights of those who served in the national Army. (5) Deputy Gay Mitchell — the circumstances of drivers, especially young drivers who have to pay increasingly large insurance premiums despite not having any claims against their insurance policies. (6) Deputy D'Arcy — the subject matter of the reply to parliamentary questions on 5 and 6 June 1991 to the Minister for Agriculture and Food regarding the disadvantaged areas scheme. (7) Deputy McCormack — the proposed sale of part of Merlin Park Hospital lands, Galway. (8) Deputy Cotter — the work to rule in the farm development services and in particular the losses suffered by applicants for grant aid due to delays in processing applications. (9) Deputy Gregory — the worsening heroin problem in Dublin with particular reference to the north and south inner city areas and the main shopping area in Ballyfermot, and the relative ease with which heroin is being imported from major British cities.

I have selected for discussion the matters raised by the following Deputies: (1) Deputy D'Arcy, (2) Deputy Deenihan and (3) Deputy Gregory.
