Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given to me under Standing Order 20 (3) (a) and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Gay Mitchell — the circumstances of drivers, especially young drivers who have to pay increasingly large insurance premiums despite not having any claims against their insurance policies; (2) Deputy Thomas W. Enright — whether the Minister for Energy has been informed of the closure of the Derrinlough and Croghan briquette factories; and if he will make a statement on the matter; (3) Deputy Jim O'Keeffe — the failure of the Government to propose for nomination, by the President, a new chairman of the Irish Red Cross Society and the damage being thereby caused to the society by the continuing delay following the adoption of a motion of no confidence in the former chairman on 17 April last; (4) Deputy Pádraic McCormack — the need for the Minister for the Marine to make the necessary finance available to the marine biology department of UCG to undertake an immediate in-depth study of the problem of lice on sea trout off the west coast with a view to making recommendations to save the rapid disappearance of sea trout stock; (5) Deputy Bill Cotter — the honours mathematics papers presented to students sitting for the leaving certificate and the effect on students; (6) Deputy Michael P. Kitt — if the Minister for the Environment will, in the context of providing proper effluent services at the sugar factory site at Airglooney, Tuam, arrange for these services to be provided there following his recent announcement of approval for Tuam sewerage scheme; (7) Deputy Tomás Mac Giolla — the effect of the rezoning of 180 acres of land in the Palmerstown area of County Dublin and the future planning and development of the new towns of Ronanstown and Blanchardstown in west Dublin and also on the traffic flow in the western by-pass and Galway road; (8) Deputy Eric Byrne — the treatment by employers of Irish emigrant workers in EC countries; (9) Deputy Jim Higgins — the need for the Minister for Tourism, Transport and Communications to establish from Iarnród Éireann that public safety is not endangered by the quality of materials used on the permanent way between Manulla Junction and Ballina.

The Ceann Comhairle has selected for discussion the matters raised by Deputies Byrne, Enright and J. O'Keeffe.
