Vol. 409 No. 8

Written Answers. - Hartstown (Dublin) School.

Mervyn Taylor

Ceist:

19 Mr. Taylor asked the Minister for Education if she has any plans for the provision of a second level school in Hartstown, Dublin 15, in view of (1) the difficulties many local parents are experiencing in securing places for their children and (2) the rapid expansion in the area's population.

I am aware that in the short/medium term there will be an increase in the number of primary school leavers in the Hartstown/Huntstown area. My Department are carrying out an extensive examination of the greater Blanchardstown area including Hartstown/Huntstown. Following the completion of this review the question of how best to cater for the increasing number of pupils from this area will be examined as a matter of urgency.

Jimmy Deenihan

Ceist:

22 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Education if she has any plans to provide a senior cycle subject to complement the new subject technology at junior cycle.

My Department have had discussions with the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment in regard to technology in second level schools. The council will examine this matter and will be making recommendations to me on it. The recommendations will include the provision to be made in this area at senior cycle.
