111 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for the Environment the number of fire safety notices served under the Fire Services Act, 1981, by the fire authorities; the number of court orders made prohibiting the use of buildings; whether there was any particular use more common; and if he has considered reviewing any aspect of the Act.
Based on returns submitted to my Department by fire authorities, a total of 758 fire safety notices were served under the Fire Services Act, 1981, in the period 1 January 1982 to 31 December 1988 (the latest date for which complete statistics are available). In the same period four court orders were made. Information is not available in my Department as to the type of premises involved. The operation of the Fire Services Act, 1981, is under continuous review in my Department.
