Vol. 410 No. 2

Written Answers. - Kilkenny Pension Applicant's Entitlement.

Liam Aylward

Ceist:

166 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Health if he will arrange without further delay to have the appropriate pension rights afforded to a person (details supplied) in Kilkenny who was employed as an ophthalmologist by various health boards; and if he will ensure that the pension awarded to her will be in accordance with the report issued to his Department in 1981 and implemented by them on 3 April 1985 thus allowing travelling time to be included in the calculation of her pension.

The matter of entitlement to a pension for the person in question is for decision by her former employing authority, the Mid-Western Health Board.

The board are actively considering the matter at present. The applicant's entitlement to pension will be determined in accordance with the provisions of the 1981 report pertaining to her grade to which the Deputy refers. It would be contrary to normal practice where public sector superannuation is concerned to allow travelling time to reckon for pension purposes.
