Vol. 410 No. 2

Written Answers. - Repeat of Leaving Certificate.

Michael Bell

Ceist:

207 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Education if she has any plans to change the current regulation whereby a student, who having sat for the leaving certificate examination and failed subject(s) is required to repeat all subjects the following year; if she will direct that only the failed subject(s) should have to be repeated; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The position at present is not as stated by the Deputy. Students who having sat the leaving certificate examination and failed one or more subjects may repeat one or more of the failed subjects if they so wish.

As I indicated in my reply for Question No. 67 of 20 June 1991, as from the beginning of the 1992-93 academic year, however, no applicant for a third level place will be able to use results from more than one sitting of the leaving certificate for points purposes.
