74 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for Finance the up-to-date position regarding the proposed development in the Boyne Valley area of County Meath; if he will outline the effect of this development from an environmental aspect; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
Conservation and presentation works at Newgrange have been completed and are at an advanced stage at Knowth. A large portion of the Knowth site will be opened to the public within the next few weeks. Road improvements are in progress. Planning has advanced on the provision of a visitor centre and ancillary facilities and a site is being acquired. The centre is being designed to the highest environmental standards in accordance with the recommendations of a specialist landscape consultant.
