Vol. 410 No. 2

Written Answers. - Limerick Garda Stations.

Michael Noonan

Ceist:

129 Mr. Noonan (Limerick East) asked the Minister for Justice if the intends opening the Garda station at Edward Street, Limerick on a full-time basis; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Garda authorities inform me that there are no plans to extend the opening hours at Edward Street Garda station. The current opening hours are geared towards providing an adequate office service to the public, while at the same time releasing the maximum possible number of gardaí for outdoor patrol duty in the subdistrict.

Peadar Clohessy

Ceist:

130 Mr. Clohessy asked the Minister for Justice if he has any plans for a new Garda station to replace the old Mary St. Garda station in Limerick; and if so, when they will be carried out.

The replacement of Mary St. Garda station with a new building is included in the current Garda building programme. The Office of Public Works have been asked to acquire a suitable site for this purpose but it is too early yet to say when the new station will be provided.
