Ceist:113 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for the Environment the steps he has taken to allow Galway Corporation to proceed with the establishment of a register of landlords as this request has been made to him.

I have received no such request. Under the Housing (Private Rented Dwellings) Regulations, 1982, the landlord of a formerly rent controlled dwelling is required to register the tenancy with the relevant housing authority. New safeguards for tenants in the private rented sector are proposed in A Plan for Social Housing; a Housing Bill to give effect to these is in preparation.
