Vol. 410 No. 6

Written Answers. - Kerry Footpath Development.

Michael Moynihan

Ceist:

115 Mr. Moynihan asked the Minister for the Environment if he will give approval for a grant to Kerry County Council for the development of a footpath from Curtins Cross to Ballyspillane.

As the footpath mentioned would be located on a county road, responsibility for the project rests with the local authority, Kerry County Council. The cost of such work falls to be financed from local resources supplemented by the discretionary grants provided by my Department for such roads. The discretionary grants allocated to Kerry County Council in 1991 total £3,129,000. This figure represents an increase of 1 per cent on 1990, 33 per cent on 1989 and 89 per cent compared with 1988. The road grants for 1991 have been fully allocated and there are no further funds at my disposal from which an additional grant could be made.
