Written Answers. - Departmental Decentralisation.

Ceist:

168 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Defence if he will outline in relation to the decentralisation of sections of his Department to Galway (a) the number of surplus staff in the grades of higher executive officer, staff officer and clerical officer retained in his Department and (b) the number of surplus staff in the grades of higher executive officer, staff officer, clerical officer who were redeployed to other Government Departments and the Departments to which they were transferred.

The information sought is as follows:

(a) Grade	Number Retained
Higher Executive Officer	None
(i) Staff Officer	5 (includes two job-sharers)
(ii) Clerical Officer	3

(i) One surplus staff officer was promoted to fill a vacancy for executive officer (analyst) and the remainder were deployed to fill staffing needs in the Department.

(ii) One surplus clerical officer was promoted staff officer and the other two were absorbed into fillable vacancies in the Department.

Staff Officer	Justice (3)

The decentralisation of sections of this Department to Galway took place in 1989 and there was an over-all reduction in the number of staff in the Department during that year.
