Written Answers. - Meetings with Insurance Companies.

26 Mr. Taylor asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will make a statement on when he last met representatives of the insurance companies dealing with motor business; the matters discussed; and whether further meetings are proposed.

I last formally met representatives of the motor insurance industry on 25 February 1991. This meeting was a follow up to an earlier meeting which I had with them on 11 February 1991 arranged to discuss the insurance industry's views on various proposals which could be considered by the Interministerial Group on Motor Insurance.

I would point out that officials of my Department have ongoing frequent contacts, including meetings, with representatives of the Irish Insurance Federation on insurance related matters, including motor insurance. Further meetings with the federation will take place once the full package of measures, which are under consideration by the interministerial group, have been announced.
