Vol. 410 No. 7

Written Answers. - Waterford Refuse Funding.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will outline the grants his Department will make available to Waterford Corporation to provide and operate a new city dump; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Brian O'Shea

Ceist:

111 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for the Environment if he will outline the grants his Department will make available to Waterford County Council to provide and operate an alternative dump in Tramore; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 110 and 111 together.

As I have previously stated, the disposal of domestic wastes has always been the responsibility of local authorities and I have no proposals to change the position.

Grants of up to 50 per cent are available from my Department to local authorities towards the capital costs of providing co-disposal facilities, which would cater for industrial as well as domestic wastes.
