Ceist:

264 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the number of jobs created in the periods (1) 1 January 1990 to 30 June 1990, (2) 1 July 1990 to 31 December 1990 and (3) 1 January 1991 to 30 June 1991 in each of the following sectors: (a) chemicals, (b) metals and engineering, (c) food, drink and tobacco, (d) textiles and clothing, (e) other manufacturing and (f) international services.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 263 and 264 together.

The number of jobs created in individual sectors of manufacturing and international services is a matter for the day-to-day responsibility of the IDA and not one in which I have a direct function.

I am informed by the IDA, however, that on the basis of the annual employment survey for 1990 estimates can be made of the gains and losses in individual sectors for that year; these are set out in the following table.

Six-monthly figures are not available.
