Vol. 411 No. 1

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given to me under Standing Order 20 (3) (a) and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Alan Dukes — the procedures to be followed in the event of incidents of serious pollution of public water supplies; (2) Deputy Paul Connaughton — the case of an 11 year old girl who has been awaiting confirmation from Beaumont Hospital of arrangements for further treatment since last July; (3) Deputy Michael P. Kitt — whether the south-east area of County Galway will be included in the severely handicapped areas scheme; (4) Deputy Charles Flanagan — the need for the Minister for Justice to review fire safety at Portlaoise Prison with particular reference to training equipment and drill; (5) Deputy Theresa Ahearn — the serious delay by the Minister for Education in the provision of the community school in Cashel, County Tipperary; (6) Deputy Jimmy Deenihan — the serious crisis in the motor trade because of the importation of used Japanese cars; (7) Deputy Philip Hogan — the urgent need for the Minister for Health to sanction the provision of an extension to St. Luke's Hospital, Kilkenny; (8) Deputy Pat Rabbitte — the urgent matter of the construction of the Tallaght Regional Hospital; (9) Deputy Eric Byrne — the situation in the Eastern Health Board area where almost 9,000 people are currently on the waiting list for orthodontic treatment; (10) Deputy Pat McCartan — that the Minister for Justice should request the Government to advise the President to grant a pardon to Nicky Kelly in view of the new evidence and opinion that emerged on a recent RTE television programme; and (11) Deputy Joe Sherlock — the reported tampering with a blood sample taken from a driver after a road accident in which a young motor cyclist lost a leg in north Cork last July.

I have selected for discussion the matters raised by Deputies Flanagan, Sherlock and Dukes.

I wish to protest, a Cheann Comhairle, at the refusal of your office to allow me to raise a Private Notice Question which relates to the outcome of a court decision on a road traffic accident which was unsatisfactory to the people in court and to the community in general. It is causing grave unrest in the area.

I wish to assure the Deputy that the Chair or his office did not wish to be discourteous to him. Perhaps he would consult with my office in the matter——

There is no other platform available to me——

——to see if we can facilitate him.
