Vol. 411 No. 1

Written Answers. - Shop Electric Campaign.

Mary Flaherty

Ceist:

49 Miss Flaherty asked the Minister for Energy if he has met the proposers of the shop electric campaign; and his views on whether the report of the Director of Fair Trade on the issue of the ESB's involvement in retailing was adequate.

Charles Flanagan

Ceist:

283 Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for Energy if he has received submissions from the National Campaign for A Fair Deal in Electrical Retailing on the matter of trading and retailing by ESB outlets throughout the country; his views on whether (a) such activity is fair dealing and (b) it is unfair to all competitors that the ESB should be allowed to use the electricity billing system to market sales of electrical goods directly through the ESB shops; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 49 and 283 together.

I have met with a deputation representing the retailers involved. I have listened very carefully to the various points they have made including their objection to ESB's use of their billing system. I am at present reviewing the situation.
